June Dinner Meeting-Postponed (Now June 19th)

Our next members’ dinner meeting, originally scheduled for June 12th, will now be held on Friday June 19th, 2015. This will be the last dinner meeting of the season, until we resume in September. The Schedule for the evening will be as follows:

5:30-Social Period Begins
6:15- Speaker (Kevin Myers)
7:15- Dinner

The menu for the evening will be:
Tossed Salad
Veal Scaloppini
Rotini in Rosa Sauce
Steamed Asparagus
Eggplant Parmigiana
Assorted Cakes

Increase Your Design Confidence
Why good design is essential in everyday life!

Learn design concepts and principles to increase your confidence in designs that you create by following time honored best practices and principles. Discover how guidelines and theories impact layout and color in this lecture that teaches fundamental skills that are practical for all artists and designers.

Kevin Myers is a new board member, illustrator, art director and instructor. He trains professionals new to design how to improve their skills at the American Graphics Institute in Philadelphia, Delaware, Maryland and New York. An adjunct professor for over 10 years, he teaches graphic design, illustration, digital design and design history at Moore College of Art and Design and Holy Family University.

May Dinner Meeting and Annual Elections for Officers and Directors

On Friday, May 8, 2015, the Philadelphia Sketch Club will hold its Annual Membership Meeting and Elections for Officers and Directors. The meeting schedule is as follows:

5:15 pm: Social Hour Begins
6:15 pm: Annual Membership Meeting and Elections
7:15 pm: Dinner

On the Menu:

Caesar Salad
Lemon Chicken
Potatoes Au Gratin
Buttered String Beans
Vegetarian Dish
Pierogies with Peppers and Onions
Assorted Cheese Cakes

In place of a speaker, this dinner meeting will serve as the Annual Membership Meeting and Elections for Officers and Directors. Members will be able to vote for all Officers, as well as non-officer Directors.

If you are unable to attend the May 8, 2015 meeting, you may appoint someone to act as your proxy and vote on your behalf at the meeting. Please RSVP to this meeting by Wednesday, May 6th by emailing executivedirector@sketchclub.org, or by calling and leaving a message at 215-545-9298.

Members Summer Garden Party August 3, 2013

On Saturday, August 3, 2013, the Philadelphia Sketch Club will host a Summer Garden Party for Sketch Club members and their guests. The festivities begin at 5 pm in the garden.  We will have a sketching contest based on a theme to be announced that evening, so be sure to bring your sketchbooks.  Those of you who are musicians are encouraged to bring your instruments too.

This is a free BYOB, pot luck event for members and their guests. Please bring food and drink to share.  (Plates, cups, utensils, etc. available.)  No need to RSVP.  Any questions, please call 215-545-9298 or email executivedirector@sketchclub.org.  We look forward to seeing everyone on August 3!

2013 Annual Meeting of the Members

The Philadelphia Sketch Club Annual Meeting of the Members will take place on Friday, May 10 at the Clubhouse at 235 S. Camac Street, Philadelphia.  Members will elect officers and directors, vote on a proposed by-laws amendment, and conduct other business as needed.  The schedule for the evening is as follows:

  • Doors open at 5:15 pm.  Social Hour.
  • Meeting commences at 6:15 pm.
  • Dinner will be served at 7:15 pm.
The dinner menu is tossed salad, veal scallopini, penne pasta in vodka sauce, steamed broccoli and cauliflower, and assorted cheesecakes.  Cost for dinner is $16.00 per person.  Please call 215-545-9298 and leave a message on or before Monday, May 6 to make a dinner reservation.

Club By-Laws require a quorum to conduct business, so it’s very important that all members either attend the meeting OR complete the proxy ballot that will appear in the May Portfolio.  Hope to see everyone on May 10!

An evening with renowned illustrator Charles Santore on Friday, March 8, at the Philadelphia Sketch Club. Mr. Santore’s work is part of the permanent collections of the Brandywine River Museum and the Museum of Modern Art, as well as many private collections. He is a winner of the prestigious Hamilton King Award from the New York Society of Illustrators, where his work was recently featured this past October in a solo exhibition entitled: “Exploring the Narrative Picture.”

The Sketch Club’s 2013 membership drive is underway!

sketchClubLogoIf your are a current Philadelphia Sketch Club member, you should have received your invoice for membership renewal for 2013 by now.  Keep your membership in the PSC active.  Don’t delay.  Return your invoice along with payment today or contact the club today to arrange payment.

If you are a member and have not received renewal information please contact us right away.

First Friday Evening Dinner Meeting of the Year!

The first dinner meeting of 2013 at the Philadelphia Sketch Club was a big success. More then 30 members and friends enjoyed good conversation during an hour-long meet-and-greet that was followed by a presentation by noted Bucks County Artist Alan Fetterman.

Alan presented many images from his recently published book  Illuminate and talked about his life as an artist. The book was available for sale with some of the proceeds to benefit the club. Alan chatted to the crowd as he signed the books for purchasers.

After Alan’s presentation, a very nice dinner was served to the crowd in the ratskeller.

During dessert, the Club’s new president, Rich Harrington addressed the crowd and introduced a two new members, Mashiul Chowdhury, and Debora Weber.

It was an enjoyable evening for all.
