Reception for 2015 Large Format Art Show

Please join us for the opening reception of our next show The Philadelphia Sketch Club’s 2015 3rd Annual Large Format Art Open Juried Show – Oct 9- 24 2015. 

Exhibiting large works in all media.

  • Cash prizes and PSC medal will be awarded to top winners at 3 PM at the reception
  • Please note: the 2015 Philadelphia OutFest Festival will be on the same day starting at 12-6 PM. All streets are closed around the club. Closest accessible parking lot is at Walnut and 12 St or west side of Broad St. Use of public transportation is best.

Reception: Sunday Oct. 11, 2015, 2 – 4 PM

Prizes presented at 3 PM.

 Jurors:

  • Larry Chestnut – an east coast artist specializing in a manner of painting called premier coup – paintings that are inspired by the scene directly in front of the artist and completed in one sitting without later revisions. http://www.chestnutart.com/
  • Bruce Garitty – does traditional, large canvas painting. He teaches at Rutgers U in Camden and was a curator of Hopkins House Gallery. He had mounted many group shows. brucegarrityart.com
  • Maria Kurtzman – Award winning artist. Maria’s professional career started as a practicing physician in internal medicine, which evolved into a full time career as an artist. She has studied at the Pennsylvania Academy as well as with well known regional and national artists. Maria has won multiple awards for her artwork, which is in collections throughout the United States.

September Dinner Meeting

We will be resuming our monthly Members’ Dinner Meetings in September. Our next meeting will be held on Friday September 11, 2015. The Schedule for the evening will be as follows:bob7

5:30-Social Period Begins
6:15- Speaker (Bob Bohne)
7:15- Dinner

The Menu for the evening will be:

  • Caesar Salad
  • Yankee Style Pot Roast
  • Oven Roasted Potatoes
  • Buttered String Beans
  • Cheese Ravioli in Rosa Sauce
  • Assorted Cakes

Robert Bohne resides in Brookhaven Pa. Born in Chester Pa, he studied at PAFA and the Fleischer Art Memorial. Robert primarily works in graphite and oils, but occasionally works in watercolor, pastel and charcoal. He equally enjoys working from the figure, still life and landscape. Several years ago Robert organized the Plein Air group “Landscape Painting Philadelphia”, an Internet meet-up group focusing on painting the landscape directly from nature. In addition to that, he runs the Thursday costume workshop at the Sketch Club and volunteers for the non-profit Sunshine Arts Organization. This year Robert won first place in the first annual Audubon Pa.Plein Air festival and the Mid Atlantic Plein Air Assoc. award in the Wayne Plein Air national competition. At the dinner meeting, Bohne will present a discussion about Plein Air Painting.
