PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS GROUP MEETING AT
THE PHILADELPHIA SKETCH CLUB
TUESDAY, JUNE 28TH AT 7 PM

Artists and their guests are invited to attend the meeting of the Professional Artists Group at the Philadelphia Sketch Club on Tuesday, June 28th at 7 PM. The meeting will begin at 7 PM with some light snacks and drinks and a period of informal discussion. There is no fee and Sketch Club membership is not required. This will be followed by a presentation by Cheryl Soltis. A brief background for her presentation is as follows:
Toltec: Artist of the Soul. The presentation by Cheryl Soltis (www.cherylsoltis.com) will give an overview of her work and dive into its meaning as well as its connection to specific locations in Mexico. Inspired by her own spiritual path and pilgrimages, Cheryl Soltis shares with you her love of paint. He artwork is inspired by her spirituality, approaching subject matter that reflects the light from within, moving her with its great beauty.
The many pilgrimages Cheryl has taken on the Toltec (means artist) path have greatly changed and influenced her life and art. Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a theme she often uses and translates as a source of being grateful for life and remembering the light as well as those who have traveled this world before.
At first glance, her body of work might seem a bit eclectic as Cheryl’s subject matter can appear to follow traditional standards and then change direction on a dime to become more alternative. But, if the viewer looks deeply one common thread is always present – that thread is her love of spirit, the inner beauty and light that one can see and/or feel.
Often the presence of light in Cheryl’s work can create a dream-like or Surrealistic quality to the symbolism of the still life objects or portrait. Spirit is always present.
